GutPathways Take the quiz

Hello, I am Theodoros Prevedoros

My colleagues call me a biochemistry freak, and I take it as a compliment.

I am a biochemist (MSc). Since 2007 I have worked alongside gastroenterologists, pediatricians, endocrinologists and other specialists, first as a scientific director and now as a scientific partner to medical practices.

Why I write Gut Pathways

Gut symptoms often look the same from one person to the next, yet the biochemistry behind them can differ.

On this website

Most health advice ignores that difference and gives the same list of tips to everyone. On this website I explain the mechanisms behind gut health, so that you can understand what happens in the gut and judge advice for yourself.

Every article states its sources and the level of evidence behind each claim.

How I think about the gut

The gut microbiome is an organ.

It is a part of the body, and it interacts with every other system.

The body is a multi-system, symbiotic, multicellular machinery with the highest degree of sophistication known so far.
  • Mechanisms before advice

The same food or supplement can act differently in different people, so I explain the mechanism first.

  • Daily habits come first

Diet and daily habits are the base. Supplements and medicines are useful tools, and they work when they are used properly and at the right time.

  • Honest about evidence

Parts of the definition of human homeostasis are still unknown. For that reason I say how strong the evidence is for each claim, and I say when something is still uncertain.

Understanding and adhering to our evolutionary human specifications is required in order to restore healthy homeostasis.

Translator of university textbooks

Reading and writing about science has always been my hobby.

During my university years I started translating essays and clinical studies as an amateur. Later this led to a professional collaboration with Crete University Press. I had the honor to be the main translator and part editor of three chemistry textbooks that are still taught at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Athens.

Intestinal microbiome: Evolutionary colonization, dysbiosis and its role in the manifestation of autism
The president of the World Pediatric Society invited me to present at the 10th conference of pediatric subspecialties. The audience received the talk well, and I was asked to present it again at the next pediatric conference in Cyprus.
